After completing her internship, she moved back to the Eastern Idaho area and has been serving clients in the area for 3 years. She is currently in her last semester of Graduate Studies in music therapy at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

Corinne has a deep love for Eastern Idaho and is excited that Unison can offer music therapy services to individuals in the area.

"Ever since I was young, I have loved music. It calmed me when I was upset, it motivated  to be better, it had this way of speaking to whatever emotion I was feeling. I didn't realize how powerful music really was until I was in high school. Every Sunday a group of my friends would go to the local nursing home and sing for the residents. I watched some of the residents who could no longer eat independently, who could not carry on conversations anymore, mouth the words to the songs we were singing! I knew at that moment that my career needed to be able to help people find a voice through music. That's when I discovered music therapy."

Jacquelyn Claxton M Ed, MT-BC

Music Therapist

Jacquelyn is a board-certified music therapist with experience working independently and as part of a team in various schools, camps and clinical settings.

Jacquelyn graduated from the University of Montana Missoula, with a BA in Social Work and a minor in Music Education followed several years later with a Master of Education degree in Music Therapy from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Between the two degrees she raised her family while working as a music specialist in Preschools, Day Cares and elementary schools. It was at this time, that she realized a place to use her skills and ideas and found out there was actually a college degree program that would help prepare her for expanding her already gained experience into a full music sharing career. Her internship was in the Minneapolis area with Martin Luther Manor and their Alzheimer’s Day facilities and residential homes. These programs gave experience to round off the whole spectrum of ages and stages of life for sharing music.

Since that time, she has worked in school, clinical and contract settings in Minnesota, Montana, Arizona, Oregon and Texas and has recently returned to the Northwest to help expand services in the Post Falls/Coeur d’ Alene/North Idaho area, where she is working with children.

“I have a deep love of the beautiful mountains, woodlands, lakes, rivers and wildlife of this Rocky Mountain northwest corner of the US and even though there are wonderful people everywhere, it feels like coming home after my many years roaming around the deserts of the southwest and along the coast of Oregon. I thrive on sharing music with people wherever they are in life.”
